Re: APC UPS shutdown of HA and other servers?

AutomatedHome UK DiscussionI always advise customers not to do it. You
get the best uptime figures if it is not connected. The APC Powerchute
software is flakey and not as secure as it should be, even the simple built
in software in 2K3 has it's moments, especially if the power bounces rather
than just goes off.

Most powercuts are less than 30 minutes and most UPSs run for longer than
that - also Windows 2003 just about always comes up clean after a power off
- if you disable write caching on the disks then it is even less likely you
will ever have a problem.

At home I have a large UPS that runs everything for about an hour and on
the very rare occasions that there is a longer power cut then I have a
small generator with a smooth output which works well at topping up the
UPS.
