Re: [OT] Shipping costs from US to UK?
I have found that the lowest cost '1 week' type service that is both
insurable and online trackable is usually USPS Global Express EMS, (the
US post office which has oncoming handling via ParcelForce in the UK).
www.usps.com I wouldn't say it's by any means the best though and I've
had more than a few problems with the incoming handling in the UK.
Parcel manages to make 5000 miles ok to my local depot in 36 hopurs or
so but then gets delayed/lost there for weeks. I do still continue to
use them though as the cost difference is often significant and they
haven't yet actually lost anything - just delayed things.
You cannot insure for high values using this service and the weight/box
dimensions are restricted , but usually adequate. Your item sounds
large/heavy though. I have also been told that making any claims on USPS
is a nightmare but fortunately I haven't needed to do that yet. Also be
aware that the cost of the shipping is declared and added to your item
value when calculating import costs, and that you can't insure an item
for more than your declared costs of course.
