This is exactly how the homeseer plugins work, you define pairs of PIRs
(from-to) to define 'areas', and build logic around this with timers.

The fewer people that are in the house the more reliable it is, assuming
the
house is of a traditional layout of one door to each room from the hall and
landing. Works quite well from some rooms, eg cloakroom/toilet where there
is normally only one person occupying the room. Don't expect it to be 100%
when you are having a party though ;)
