Just wot I wus going to say :-)

With my quarter baked knowledge...  Might be worth having a crossover
cable handy. The switch <<probably>> does autodetection  but if
you
still can't get the management console up then try the crossover.

Don't suppose it has a serial port does it ? If it does try connecting
with hyperterminal or similiar and power cycle it to if you can set
basic settings through serial.
