Re: [OT] How can I "Ping" a particular port
you cant ping any old port... ICMP(ping) runs on a dedicated port.
the best thing you can do is use telnet. if a connection is established
then the port is open, if the connection
fails then there is no open port.
When it connects the command prompt screen will go completely black with a
cursor flashing,
where as when it cannot connect you get the following.
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris>telnet 127.0.0.1 2000
Connecting To 127.0.0.1...Could not open connection to the host, on port
2000: Connect failed
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris>

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] How can I "Ping" a particular port
Hi guys
I want to make sure some port forwarding I've set up in my router works.
At the moment, I can't use the specific applications to test the access
so I thought the easiest way would be to ping the specific ports.
However, "ping <IPADDR>:<Port#> doesn't work so how can I
check that the
routing is set up correctly?
Can I do this using ping or is there another shell command I need to use
or even an alternative bit of software?
Thanks
Regards
Neil
