[OT] : Mobo's with dual PCI-Ex16 slots...

I'm still looking to update my PC and at the moment am looking at the
Athlo=
n
64 or Athlon 64 X2 processors at about =A3100 - =A3120 with a suitable
mobo=
but
I normally run my main desktop machine with a dual headed PCI and a dual
headed AGP graphics card and 4 x 19" CRT monitors.

I realise that the idea of having dual PCI-E x 16 slots on a motherboard is
so that you can run two identical cards in SLi mode but can you run two
(identical?) non-SLi cards independently?

What I'd like to do is use two (identical?) cheap PCI-E graphics cards in a
dual PCI-E x 16 mobo to give me quad monitor outputs - anyone know whether
this is possible or not?
