Location of a secondary e-mail server is irrelevant providing it is
reliable. However, I would advise against having a secondary e-mail server
unless you have full control over it's UCE (Unsolicited Commercial E-mail)
settings to match up with your primary e-mail server's.

Spammers routinely make use of non-primary e-mail servers for the delivery
of spam. So having a secondary that is less UCE stringent than the primary
would virtually ensure a significant increase of received spam.
