IIRC Publisher won't allow you to save a selected area and thus saves
the page (including a lovely white background) even when using a PNG.
Going from memory though so may be wrong.

It would be best to create your logo in something like Photoshop,
Illustrator or PaintShop Pro (the latter be the cheapest and easiest to
use.) That way you can create a PNG or EPS with transparency or
clipping paths. Not used Paintshop Pro for a while but I seem to
remember it had a handy wizard for creating the correct transparencies.

Try this link for a little help:

http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/faq/a/transparency.htm

Lastly if you intend to use the logo on anything large (Say a van side
or something) just remember that it may be much better to creat a vector
which can be resized infinitely. Might not be a problem though if only
for web or print use.

P.S. I'm no designer, just a keep amateur :-)
