I believe there is also an archived Elektor article somewhere on the
net relating to collecting data from the FLAG port. I have read the
article, and it was interesting, but do not have a clue as tot he URL.

Just to share my bit of knowledge as I was looking into this as well.
As far as I understand it there is some part of the meter protected by
code or password. However consumption data including consumption
profile and detailed info shuold be available without protection. I've
even read somewhere that it actually transmits some data every 30
minutes automatically.
