from the 123reg Control Panel

Use the Manage Domain option (Modify Domain)

Then Manage DNS


Set an 'A' record for your website

For example if you use www then

www - A - ip address

in my case www - A - 80.176.92.1922

you can also use other A records such as 'photos' as in
http://photos.corbenic.co.uk

MX records are for mail... create an A record to point to your mail
server such as mail.yoururl.co.uk

Then put mail.yoururl.co.uk. as the mx record with a value of say 10
(the last '.' in the setting is important....

Let us know if this makes any sense.

A good tool for testing is nslookup which you can get to from the
command prompt on your PC, this will verify what your DNS used by your
PC/Network is returning for a particular URL

In the 123-reg panel, select the change nameservers option and enter the
ns1... ns2... This will keep you domain under your control (via
123-reg),
but will allow the actual DNS values held to be updated by the control
panel
of your new host.
