RE: Re: RAID recommendations?

PCI-X is a 64-bit (and 66MHz I believe) extension to the standard PCI
slot, - it's actually a normal PCI slot plus an extra bit of slot tacked
on (so longer than normal PCI).

I *believe* that in most cases cards are backwards compatible - i.e. a
PCI-X card will usually work in a normal PCI slot at the usual PCI rates
of 32-bit/33MHz - the extra part of the edge connector on the card just
sits out in space and is ignored in this configuration... - and
obviously the performance is reduced commensurately...

With the introduction of PCIe (PCI Express) - which I believe is a tiny
little slot, much smaller than a standard PCI slot, I suspect PCI-X now
has a very limited shelf life, - which is why (as I believe I mentioned
previously), I may see if I can wait it out until PCIe versions of these
cards come along, - which they surely will...

WRT to compatibility, - if you go to the product page for the card on
the highpoint website - http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/rr2220.htm
there are a couple of links at the top of the page to compatibility
lists for both motherboards and drives in PDF format.
