I did it with my new self build about 2 years ago - 1000 gallon
underground tank takes all the runoff from all the roof gutters, and
intelligent pump controls allow automatic switching to mains if the tank
runs out. Cost about £2.5k, dug the hole while the groundworkers were
on site. It feeds the toilets, garden taps and washing machine, and
saves around two thirds of the previous water bill - I reckon it will
pay for iteself in around 7 years if water prices stay constant. In 2
years its only run out once, and that was about a week ago, a couple of
days rain will fill it back up pretty quickly. Got it from
