Re: xAP uPNP module ?
When I last passingly looked the Sonos UPnP and http based API was not
really sufficient to integrate well with other systems. AMX and Crestron
integrators have I believe found the same and I haven't seen support
from TelCanto either . I'll have another route around Crestron and
AMX's site to see if any progress has been made which might indicate
some movement here that would facilitate xAP. It's quite hard to
query/instruct a UPnP renderer as to what to do and to manage/query
it's playlist titles. IIRC UPnP works by effectively offloading a list
of files to play to a file share based connection between a 'server' and
client. Thus the 'controller' can be a third separate entity. When a
complete (closed) system like Sonos supplies all three parts of this
solution the need for each part to be functionally independent goes away
:-( Thus for example Sonos does not act as a true UPnP server - you
can't attach other UPnP renderer clients (eg Roku, Netgear etc) to a
Sonos system (unfortunate but commercially understandable I suppose) .
I do believe it would be possible to have 'basic' bits like status and
transport under control though, although I haven't done it -. I know
you wanted to just select AV inputs when Sonos started/stopped playing.
Patrick - did you go Sonos in the end ??
