I'm sure that the AD (DIN rail mounted switch modules) *DON'T* have local
control and therefore don't leak current into the load.

The "leak" you mention - which is in the LM12 modules - is not to
detect
when something is plugged into it but for sensing you activating their
"local control" feature by switching off and then on the main
power switch
of the unit being controlled by the LM12 module. This then triggers the
module itself to turn on.
