Sounds like a plan. Not that I have kids or anything, but I note that
they do tend to be rather sticky as a species, which would suggest a
keyboard in the throw-away price range makes sense.
One other thought - one of those waterproof typethroughable keyboard
covers combined with some Letraset or similar and a suitable paint?
Given that you're not too fussed about QWERTY on the basis that they'll
learn the layout quickly enough by osmosis, might the same also apply to
upper-case characters? Or is that an educational can-of-worms (I'm
vaguely aware that the current trend in schools seems to be to avoid
'confusing' children with upper case and the proper names for letters)?
