RE: X10 doorbell & blinds
The blinds are the wooden slatted jobbies you see everywhere, with a pole
that turns to open or close the slats and a drawstring to lift the slats
(not a pully, just a bit of string that you wrap around a hook to keep the
blind up).
I'm on the road at the month, but will take a look at the game port link
later.
Thanks
Pete

Peter,
Have you thought about wiring straight to the Game port on your sound
card ???
I have used this for connecting a number of PIRs to one of my Homeseer
PCs and found it very reliable.
See http://tinyurl.com/83nwv
Without knowing the switching requirements it's a bit hard to advise but
I think you thinking X10 will get over the lack of dedicated wiring is
the right way to proceed...
Do you have details of what is required to operate the blinds...

Subject: [ukha_d] X10 doorbell & blinds
Quick question, what X10 bits do I need so that Homeseer knows when the
doorbell has been pushed? All I've done so far is run some cat5e
between
Node 0 and the front door, and got a bell-push that simply closes a
contact
when pushed. Is it a powerflash I need?
On a related note (sort of), we have 1 window in our selfbuild that once
the
internal scaffolding is removed next week, will be nigh-on impossible to
reach without a fireman's ladder (hopelessly impractical atrium over the
stair gallery, but at least it'll look nice!). I plan to put up a
wooden
venetian blind, and did have the sense to run a power socket there too
(but
no Cat 5, duh). Is there another X10 widget I can use to either
open/close
the slats on the blind, and or lift or lower it?
Thanks
Pete
