I think as Paul says the trick is just to do the work before the guy
arrives.
When we put Sky (and subsequently Sky+) into the barn here I ran all the
cables where I wanted them, there was no way I was going to allow them to
drill through a window frame or door which is the Sky standard route into a
house!=20
I also wanted the Sky dish on a gable end up high, this was only achieved

bribing the engineer :-)
It's also worth noting that Sky engineers are not insured to go on roofs or
in lofts. (I kid you not!).
When the engineer turned up to put our Sky+ in I said "OK mate cables
are
all there just wire up your LNB" After he did that he said he needed
to
install and commission the box, so I took him to Node 0 and he suddenly
changed his mind and let me wire it in ;-)

can any body tell me if you have to have the installation service as i like
to carryout my own

I don't pay anything for Sky+ service since I subscribe to a premium

package and therefore get the "+" service for free.
Since I pay all the above already, I'm effectively "buying" a
Sky+ box (and
getting it fitted) for a mere =A349, which seems a bargain to me...
