I think you are on the right track about the whole house. As long as you
intend to do the whole house eventually I still think it makes sense.

I have had futronix ir in the past and didn't really see the point once I
had it. It was as easy just to stand up and hit the lights.

I think the power of cbus come for a few places....

1:  Scenes - these are fab - assuming you have a few circuits in your main
rooms + possibly 5amp floorstanders etc you can really creating stunning
lighting. I also believe CBUS is good value here as a dlt can hold 8 scenes
in it (10 circuits per scene).

2: Whole house control - can't emphasise enough how cool it is to turn off
all the lights from your bedside switch.

3. Integration .... my CBUS switches can turn my sprinklers on and off /
oipen and shut curtains all from a very natural interface. CBUS also has a
lot of logic capability built in / timers etc. You can get a lot of desired
behaviour without ever involving another system.

4. CBUS adds value to a house - if you ever sell its a decent system that
will not need ripping out.
