CBus second thoughts...

  • Subject: CBus second thoughts...

Damn... just as I thought I had it all planned out, I'm having second
thoughts over whether CBus is the right thing to stick in the new
extension (and retrofit elsewhere).

As I see it, to get any real benefit, I need to do the whole-house (or
near as damn it), and use some automation/intelligence. Otherwise, I'm
spending a stack of cash for just "fancy dimmer switches", when I
could just as easily use 'dumb' dimmers.

Which has got me thinking - if I'm not going to get around to doing
much clever HA stuff (I know, I know, "what the hell am I doing here
then", but I really can't see that I will), then I may as well use a
lesser technology; which has led me to look at standalone scene
dimmers, and the favourite being Futronix. This at least has IR, so
there's potential for some clever stuff later if I really want.

HELP.... Am I losing the plot, has SWMBO gotten to me, or am I
actually thinking intelligently (and keeping the CBus cash for
something else ;) ???
