Yes !!!

Just because the wires are coloured doesnt mean the manufacturer has used
the
same colour code.

For my KAT5 IR receivers I was using ready made 3.5mm to 3.5mm Stereo
Jack leads
and cutting them in half to wire to the receiver.

The wires inside were always Red and White wherever I bought the leads from
however for some leads the connections were

Tip = Red
Ring = White

of others

Tip = White
Ring = Red

It is always worth testing with a multimeter first!
