Re: Building a NAS server on a budget (with photos)

Mark,

Price:

=A3138.00+VAT x 1 - Synology DS-101 Disk Station (NW-000-SY)
=A399.95+VAT x 1 - Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 300GB 6B300RO ATA-133 16MB
Cache - OEM (HD-048-MD)

Not necessarily cheapest, but was in stock and delivered next morning!

It is fanless but the drive is a bit noisy. I've sat it on some foam
rubber pads to cure this. Disappointingly, due to cooling, the unit
needs to sit upright,

Totally configured through web browser. However, initial setup used a
windows app (Mac app on CD too!) to set the initial IP address, etc.=20
I believe, but have not tested, that there is a way to do this without
loading the setup application.

Also supplied was an application to background synchronise folders
between your PC and the Disk Station. Not tested this yet though.
