Part P Clarification (again I know I'm sorry)

Hi,

I am currently midway though renevating my victorian semi. This obviously
involves a complete rewire including all the usual HA stuff.

My question is about mains wiring/sockets as I am assuming part P does not
cover light switches for low voltage control via CBUS.

My electrician (part P registered-all up to date) is saying that I do not
need to have my sockets 40cm above the flloor as it is a renovation and not
a new build. He says I would need them 40cm in the newly built rear
extension but not in the loft extension that has just been added.

If it matters, all the work started after the new regs came in and will not
complete till September. time.

Can anyone enlighten me ?

Also, do all mains wires have to be metal-capped on walls or is that just a
nice thing to do but not offcically required ?

Thanks for any advice.

Chris
