APC don't make their own batteries.  They typically use CSB and
Panasonic batteries.
There are different lead-acid technologies.  UPSs use AGM non-
spillable batteries that can be installed in any orientation.  Cars
batteries have to be installed upright as they are spillable.  I
don't know what motorbikes use?  Maybe AGM?  Anyone know?
Lead acid batteries have a shelf life and should be regularly charged
about every 6 months.
If left too long they can suffer damage.  Sometimes this can be a
single cell going short circuit and this can lead to the other cells
in the battery over charging and being damaged.
