I know they can do whatever they like as it's their board and I agreed to
their conditions but was wondering from a legal point of view.

I think that is the key, its their server, therefore they can do
exactly what they like. They probably do it to avoid any possible
repercussions - ie it's more of a precaution than anything.
Very annoying though...
