That was the reccomendation on the CBus training course, set
everything up in comfort of your testbench, then ship it to site.  You
can do just one unit as a time.  If you've planned the installation
upfront you can also program the devices, in addition to addressing
them.  That way, when they are insalled, the installation should work
from power up.

However....  now the software is better the serial numbers route might
be the way forward.
