Just found this

which I think will do what I need.  I have managed to get the bits
from Maplin today so will be giving it a try later.

Building on the idea of setting R2 to give 2.73 volts for a range of 0
to 50, I am hoping to prove that a voltage of 2.63 will give me a
range of -10 to +40.

The theory sounds good......
