RE: [OT] Hard Disk Dying
Certainly worth formatting & trying again Steve, - after all, what have
you got to lose, if the alternative is just to bin it?... I'm saying
that with the assumption that you will use another disk in the
production media server, so if it does die again you don't risk losing
the data again...
I have on numerous occasions in the past had similar circumstances, and
in most cases the errors were "soft" errors, and a reformat cured
them...

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] Hard Disk Dying
My media Server Hard disk appears to be dying. When backing up it came
up
with a number of error messages such as 'Disk not formatted', 'Unable to
read from source or disk'. I have managed to get most of the information
off
copying directory by directory and then file by file there are a couple
of
items I couldn't retrieve.
I and am now trying to work out what to do next the disk is 6 months
old. Is
there a utility I could run that would give me an idea of what is wrong
and
that may enable me to get the remainder off or do I just ditch it and
get a
new disk or re-format and try again?
Steve
