"Leaking gasses" is one of those wonderful urban myths that go
around
about things...

...unfortunately I've even heard staff in Dixons say to customers that
plasmas need to be regassed every few years.

Plasma panels do degrade in exactly the same way as CRT tubes though in
that the phosphors wear - this is how the channel logos get burned into
the screens, the phosphors wear more quickly in that area due to
prolonged stationary images being displayed.
