[OT] Plasma broken :-(

It's now 3 years old but my NEC 42MP3 appears to be dying... The
image on the screen looks 'posterised' with colours all wrong (for
example, white becomes pink and streaky, light colours are a
fetching shade of green, and there are fluorescent halos around
everything), and occasionaly the screen 'loses' the image and starts
buzzing. The picture returns, but with the image issues.

I'm going to give NEC a call tomorrow (not under warranty) but I
suspect the cost of getting a service engineer to the screen plus
parts and labour will be expensive and i'm not convinced it's worth
it.

Has anyone else had experience of plasma screens breaking in terms
of costs, etc.. or does the issue I described sound familiar??

Looking forward, if it is to be replaced I want to make sure I get
something that can cope with high-def material. I want a screen of
around 42" in size. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

(a rather sad and despondent) Keith
