TV-out Boxes

In the quest for a solution to connect my MediaPortal PC to my TV, I've
been looking at TV-out boxes.  They seem to just plug into the VGA port
and provide composite/S-video/RGB.  Some have wireless transmitters too.
Has anyone any experience of these?  Am I going to be disappointed with
the picture compared to composite out on a Tivo using an RF source?
They look cheap, which makes me think there must be a catch!
