Don't count on a release too soon. There is a fundamental flaw with
Extenders for Europe and that's that they will only do 4:3. The NTSC
issue isn't quite so important as most TVs will do this anyway.

You can sometimes find the XBox extender on eBay but this needs a
chipped XBox and I am told that there is an issue with chipped Xboxes
and Xbox Live.

We have found the best way is to use another PC as an extender if you
have them. You can share the media on the MCE machine and then use
something like Meedio as the front end on the other PC. You can't
watch live TV this way but at least you can get access to the rest of
the media.
