Bluetooth Occupancy Detection

I just thought I'd share this with you guys, it might give you some
ideas, or you may inspire me too...

I have a USB Bluetooth dongle attached to my work PC, and I use it in
conjunction with my phone as a rudimentry occupancy detection system.

I use Linux with KDE, and KDE has something called KBluetoothd, which
is basically a Bluetooth addon for KDE, it lets you browse bluetooth
devices and send and receive files over bluetooth etc.

It also lets you execute scripts when it detects or loses a bluetooth
device, so I have it set up to log the event (also acts as a kind of
timesheet). When the phone dissapears it locks my screen, stops the
mp3 player & sets my MSN & IRC clients to "Away"

On return it just logs the event, and sets the away status to back.

You can see how this could be applied in the home, setting your HA
systems occupied status, it could also keep track of who is at home
too if your spouse has a bluetooth enabled phone.
