The other alternative that might fit everyone's needs is a set of
private newsgroups (i.e a private usenet)

You get the flexibility of having the content arrive on your machine 'as
it's posted', can delete the posts you don't want, mark the ones that
are important to you etc.

It could also have a web front end that looked and behaved like a forum
with rss feed for those who wanted that.

By making it private Mark et al can control who has access and keep the
normal crud that fills some the the usenet groups out.

I did some stuff like this 7 years ago, but I'm a bit past my
programming prime now, so I'll have a poke around the web and see if
there's anything around that does this.
