Using a Hauppage PVR250 with myth here - it Just Works, and the
quality's spiffy. The 150/500 are allegedly a little more fiddly to get
working (think they need a more recent ivtv driver), but many people
seem to be using them. The 350 works fine, and has a built-in decoder,
but personally I'd save myself a few quid and get a 250 and cheap Nvidia
card (the TV out works fine with the binary driver), especially if the
backend is going in a separate box[0].

If you're up to a little soldering, a serial IR dongle can be made
relatively easily[1]. Myth doesn't care how it changes channel, it just
calls a script with the desired channel as a parameter, so it's dead
easy to interface with pretty much anything.

kim.

[0] Which I'd recommend if you're serious about myth - much easier to
keep the disks/capture cards/beefier CPU cool if it's tucked out of the
way in node 0 where you don't mind a few fans.

[1] I'm using an overly complicated PIC-based transmitter that I built
ages before I'd heard of myth to allow control of the STB from any
computer in house.
