RE: Loft insulation
The rigid foamboard insulation (Kingspan, Celotex etc) has much higher
u-values with lesser thicknesses. Needless to say it comes at a price, but
it's also (slightly) nicer to work with. You can also just compress the
Rockwool insulation under the boarding, but IIRC, that reduces it's
efficiency, as part of it's insulation value comes from the trapped air.
There's also a wonder-product, called Actis (or something close to that)
which is basically foiled-bubblewrap, so very thin. The Selfbuild
community
is very divided over whether it works in this country (in theory more
suited
to sunnier places) but it does have BBA approval.

Subject: [ukha_d] Loft insulation
I'm looking at boarding part of my loft to create some storage and
somewhere for my Node Zero.
With the recommended insulation thickness much more than the size of
most peoples ceiling joists, I wondered what people did in the parts
of the loft that they boarded ? I have considered buiding up to joists
to increase the available height for insulation, but don't want to
loose that amount of height in the loft.
Any suggestions people have would be most welcome.
Cheers,
Jon
