There are higher resolutions available, but at a great leap in price.
1280x768
is reasonably common even on 42"ers

Yeah, but unfortunatly the bright sparks in the states made the 1080 mode
interlaced, so you are back where we are with analog TV in having to suffer
dodgey de-interlacing artifacts on any digital display panel.
