It depends. You don't have to fit a mod chip. By linking a couple of
points on the Xbox motherboard you can reflash the existing bios (saving
£30), as you don't want to play games this is a winner. However if you
buy a newer Crystal Xbox, (V1.6) it won't have flash memory (cheaper ROM
instead), so you will have to buy a £30 modchip.

All much of a muchness, if you can get a couple of games thrown in -
stick them on Ebay.
