RE: Wind Power
This stuff is looking more tempting all the time - given that BP Solar are
talking about providing in excess of 80% of the power requirement for a UK
home from 3 square metres of panel (even up here in scotland!) and windsave
talking about a 33% average bill reduction, it's looking pretty plausible
to
have an almost zero impact on the grid across the year.
The thing that always bothered me about home generated power was the hassle
of batteries - these systems that work on grid to reduce your consumption
instead are much more interesting, not to mention the environmental benefit
of viewing the grid as a safety net/backup rather than the be all and end
all of power supply.
I seem to remember talk of buyback systems as well, where excess generated
power would be absorbed by the grid for credit. That would just be the
icing
on the cake I guess.
Ian.
