nothing stopping you from plugging in an external dvd burner when you need
it

Good point - I'm not sure if you get iDVD if you don't buy the
superdrive version. If not, you will still be able to write a data DVD
image using Disk Image, but you won't be able to build non-data DVD
images (ie that will play back in a DVD player). However, both come with
iLife 05, and iDVD is part of iLife...

You can upgrade later, but there is an additional cost involved in
getting the upgrade fitted (dealer fit only I think).
