Ian - the original question was "what laptop should I buy" and
had nothing to do with home automation (it was not mentioned at any point).
And I am calm following half a bottle of red and a packet of nuts!!!

It's good manners for someone to put [ot] in the subject of a post that is
not 100% on-topic for the list, as Stephen has done.

Add to this that the vast majority of HA systems involve computers to a
greater or lesser degree and I have to ask... What's the problem?

The whole question of dedicated controllers vs general purpose PCs in home
automation applications is absolutely *not* settled - there are well
qualified people who can argue comprehensively for each view point and
bring
up perfectly valid points to defend their position.

You need to take some happy pills and calm down mate!
