I would remove the hard drive and try and put it in another PC

I've always found that the easiest way

You will need a converter from laptop style Hard drive connector to IDE,
but you will always find a use for that again

There is many a useful tool on version 3.1 of the 'Ultimate Boot CD'

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com

There should be utilities on there to recover partitions etc. and/or
clone
your HD to another drive, say an external one while you reinstall your
primary HD.

I swear by it.
