How about a "warning" about a minute beforehand. This could take
the
form of a discreet "beep" or the flash of a lamp thereby warning
the
occupant that the timer was running out.

Which is what we have in one of our offices.. and it instigates the
"past
17:30 Mexican wave" as multiple people get up out there seats and wave
their
arms... very amusing.
