Aerial Installation for Freeview

Hi,

I hope you can help. I know that there has been quite a bit of discussion
on
the list regarding Freeview. We recently moved into a new house in Essex,
UK. The previous owners have been on Telewest cable and although there is
an
aerial lead from the living room to the roof aerial, the lead is really
worn
(probably came when the house was built 50 years ago!!) and needs replacing
to the extent that I can't get a decent reception on channels 1-5.

Alongside this we've just bought a Freeview box so whilst we're replacing
the lead it may make sense to change the aerial on the roof.

I've never done this before and really don't fancy getting up on the roof.
I
phoned a company and they said it'd be £150 to replace the aerial and lead
which I think is quite expensive.

I guess my question is, does this sound right and b). is there another way
to do it which will get decent reception for Freeview?

Thanks!
