Thanks for the pointer.  I haven't used xPL but in looking at your
suggestion I 'discovered' that XLobby has a USB-UIRT plugin and as I
use XLobby for the audio control, the answer is obvious :-)

Just ordered the USB UIRT as a result.

(I had thought I'd need to use a girder plugin for XL.)

Really must look at xPL/xAP properly though.
