Luxeon Leds have a rating of 100,000 hours or more until they dim to 80%
(I think that's the percentage).
Luxeon's are used in many of the modern Led lighting units.

Does anyone know what life-expectancies for modern "superbright
LEDs"
are?

Even better than SMSing when it was about to blow would be a lightbulb
that didn't blow in the first place :-)
