Darren,
This may well be due to Excel not thinking the cells are in the same
format.
To resolve this, highlight the column (or all the time cells) and press
Ctrl+1. On the Number tab select Custom as the category and enter hh:mm:ss
in the type field.
Having done this the Sum() should work.

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] Mobile phone bills

Hi All,

I have downloaded an Excel file from carphonewarehouse to calculate my call
costs, etc. as I am going to be moving from vodafone to easymobile.com
(great
rates BTW) and surprise surprise there isn't a total duration spent!

The call durations are in HH:MM:SS format and I cannot seem to get Excel
2003 to add up the entire column using the =sum() formula.
Strangely if I use =E123+E124+E125,etc. it works. Any clues?

TIA
Darren
