Robert's Perl Tutorial is a great starting point.  Look at the section on
globbing directories for trawling through your date stamped folders and
reading the timestamped files.  You should be able to implement date
searching quite easily.

I'm sure you could probably run Perl on both servers.  You'll need to find
the location of Perl for the first line of your scripts though.
