Actually, given the fact that my house is a pre 1900 terrace built
with soft red bricks and lime mortar it would probably be a case
of "Will the wall hold it!"

I was putting some cupboards up once and decided to fix a batten to
the wall to help support the weight of the bottom of the cupboards
rather than hang all the weight just on the two official fixings.....
it took 4 screws just to get the batten to hold to the wall! Every
time I drilled into the wall I managed to hit a seam of mortar in
between the bricks :-(

My sister-in-law had a similar house and when I was chiselling out a
socket box the brick started to move through the wall!

The joys of DIY in an old house :-(
