We fixed through the wall and through a ply board for a plasma mounted at
the office (on a metal stud wall), but it was easy for us to do, as we had
access to the back of the wall, and it wasn't really in a public area, so
aesthetics weren't important.

That said, IMHO it was overkill, but then again, it wasn't my screen. I'm
sure someone with better physics skill that I can probably tell you all
about the lateral forces compared to the racking strength of the wall, and
as most of the force is downwards, so not as scary as it seems. Didn't
stop
me from using bloody great coach bolts for my own plasma into a brick wall
though, and worrying every time it creaked for weeks afterwards!

Hi all,

I have been asked to mount a plasma onto a metal stud plasterboard
wall. It's a 42" screen with a weight (not inc mount) of around
31kg. It is either a Hitachi or NEC panel btw - not sure which one
the customer will go for yet.

Has anyone done such a thing and what approach did you use? Is it
safe to fix to the board and through a couple of upright studs or is
it better to fix a ply board first and fit through that? If it is
possible then what are the best fixings to use? Are there some 3rd
party mounts better for this sort of thing than others?

Many thanks in advance.

Jez
