RE: [OT]ish suction moulding machine?

This looks good. I think I will have a go at making one as it doesn't look
too hard. I will use a mold suitable for my recently acquired toaster oven
as that is ready to go, the correct size for what I have in mind and will
not upset the missus ;-)

Jules - if you find somewhere in the UK to get the plastic please let me
(us) know. The plastic off the US site was rather expensive to put it
mildly.

I think a little experimentation for the frame is in order as there seems
to be two different approaches in the two sites, we shall see. I think I
favour the warmplastic approach where it looks as though the frame is
bigger than the working area and the plastic forms the seal as you lower
it down with the vacuum on. Also the frame is held together with large
bull clips so removal of the wastage will be quick and easy.

If I remember correctly from school, it was called a vacuum forming
machine.
I came across this whilst searching:

How to Build and Use Your Own Vacuum-Forming Device
http://members.aol.com/GCGassaway/vacuform.htm

Having at look at http://www.warmplastic.com/, it
seems it's not too hard to
make your own!

... All from Google.

Alex.

Hi all,

Odd request I know, but I'm putting the finishing touches to a touch panel
PC and need to smarten the front up a little. I'm thinking back to my old
CDT days in school where we had a machine a few feet square that was used
to
heat and then drop sheets of plastic onto moulds. Letting the plastic cool
down, you'd be left with some rigid plastic in the shape of your mould.
I'm
trying to find a simple or cheap version on the web so I can design and
mould a front plate for my device.

If anyone knows a manufacturer or the technical name for such a product,
that'd be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jules
